Know God - Be Strong - Do Great this summer…

July 6, 2008

Our summer theme at Every Nation London focuses on the powerful truths of Daniel 11:32, which declare that “…those who know their God will be strong and do great exploits.” We are trusting for a great season of KNOWING GOD, BEING STRONG, AND DOING GREAT EXPLOITS.

This week I travel to Nashville for some Every Nation International Policy Council meetings, as well as attending part of our US pastors F.U.E.L. conference there. On my way over I’ll be stopping over in Orlando and attending the Lakeland Outpouring/revival meetings there, which are reporting some phenomenal healings etc. I’m simply trusting for a great time of God stirring and igniting my heart and giftings. After Nashville I’ll be visiting my good friends Joe & Nancy Martin in Dallas, and preaching at Valley Creek Church with pastor Kevin Evans, who has been a hero getting involved with some of our church planting efforts in Europe.

I’m pressing in to know my God more, because to know Him is to love Him, and to love Him is to know Him intimately, and be fully satisfied in the deepest part of your being. I’m pressing in to more of His strength infusing my often glaring weaknesses, and I am trusting to step out of my boat and come out of my caves, and do all the great to which he has called me. Join me on this great adventure this summer…

Mugabe vs. God…

June 21, 2008

Did anyone hear what this despot dictator murderer dared to say yesterday?  Listen to this: “Only God who appointed me can remove me - not the MDC (The opposition party), not the British.”… “the MDC will never rule Zimbabwe.”   If ever there was a “WMD” (Weapon of mass destruction) which needed action by the international community, Mugabe surely is it. (see my previous post on this here)

For us Christians, the fight is a spiritual one. Our warrior prayers are with all Zimbabweans this week, as dozens are being murdered and 1000’s are being brutally intimidated in the run-up to the run-off elections for the presidency this weekend. Where will it all end? Right now I judge that for Mugabe and his cronies at least its going to end in hell…

Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people. - Proverbs 14:34

London “MANdate” this Saturday…

June 18, 2008

Calling all men/males anywhere near London this weekend - we have called an improntu “MANdate” on Saturday morning 21st June

Venue: The Edwards Pub (Opposite Hammersmith Tube Station), King St, Hammersmith W6 7AB.

Time: From 10.00 - 12.00.

Expect a full-on empowering life & spiritual muscle building time…and bacon & egg butties…

Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare for war! WAKE UP THE MIGHTY MEN! Let all the fighting men draw near and attack. 10 Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears. Let the weakling say, “I am strong!” 11 Come quickly… ROUSE YOUR WARRIORS, O LORD! - Joel 3:9-11

Incl - Special prayers for the desperate need in Zimbabwe with elections next week.

Girls, this is one date you definitely don’t want your male friends/husbands/boyfriends/brothers etc to miss…Send them all….All men/males welcome…

PS - If you want a good stirring warm-up, try listening to my last Sundays sermon titled “The Fathers Launching words.” I really felt it was hitting the mark. In it I also ranted a bit about naked men in London - for a reminder of my views on this check out my previous “Wolfi’s View on…the naked men on London’s buses.”

See you for a MANdate on Saturday. Come as you are - just not naked…

SuperDad…

June 13, 2008

This Sunday I get to wear my “SuperDad” t-shirt again. I have a confession to make: I bought it for myself! (well, my kids did say I was the best dad they’ve ever had…)

I also have the privilege of preaching on Fathers day, and I have a deep expectation for this Sunday as I try with Gods help to share about the most powerful launching words a father ever spoke to his son, from Matthew 3v17 as God the Fathers voice came from heaven saying: “This is My beloved son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Our children will one day “leave & cleave”, but the words we speak will determine whether we simply “let them go” (neutral influence), “limit them” (negative influence), or “launch” them positively into their destiny. I want to be a “launching father”, and I see an example in the word of the Heavenly Father as He launched Jesus into His public ministry years to fulfill all that had been destined:

The Father said: My Son - Beloved Son - and Well pleasing Son.

Every child needs to have these  words of identity, acceptance and affirmation etched deep in their spirit and soul. Without them we wonder through life wondering Whose we are and who we are. We seek identity and fulfilment in all sorts of places and things which never satisfy. But when we hear these words of life from the father, they are the powerful fuel which we desperately need to launch us into a courageous pursuit of dreams and destiny.

I pray that you will hear and receive these launching words straight from the Fathers heart to yours. You are His son/daughter. You are loved. You bring Him pleasure. Lift-off…

PS - Can you remember when someone spoke some “launching words” to you?

I fasted from IT for 8 days!

June 3, 2008

I’ve just come back from a great weeks holiday on the Spanish Costa Del Sol. Besides taking a break from work, I decided to take a complete break from email, Internet, blogs, facebook, etc. I didn’t touch a computer once, and didn’t download anything onto my PDA either. A complete Internet fast. I had a few mild witdrawel symptoms for a day or two, especially a slight worry that I’d forgotten to turn my “out of office” message on (How would the world know where I am???!!).   The world didn’t stop because I didn’t reply to email straight away… nothing was SO urgent that it couldn’t wait till this week to be searched, booked, blogged, viewed…no-one wrote a complaint on my blog-site about missing me…(That hurt…), and generally all was OK without the WWW.

Actually, when we arrived in London 15 years ago there was no email, no www, not even a mobile phone! (Maybe thats why the church grew so slowly back then!?)

Anyway, I’m back on-line now…committed to let this technology serve me, no enslave me…

What I’ve been up to…

May 13, 2008

I havent done much blogging lately, but its been a great season here in the great(est) city…

  1. The weather in London has been AWESOME for the past week!
  2. Global Day of Prayer - this past Sunday we took part in the Global day of prayer - Praying with millions of Christians from over 200 nations. In London we gathered with 20-30,000 people in Millwall football stadium - also known as “the Den”, and the Millwall team are known as the Lions - so we were in the “Lions Den” - as someone said: Never had there been so many Christians in the Lions Den!  I believe that God changes things in answer to prayer…
  3. I worked hard in my garden putting up a new fence since the old one had virtually rotted away. Made me think of how we need to “fix the fences” in our lives to keep more of the bad stuff out, and the good stuff in…By the way, as I start helping Ali with some gardening I am reminded that whatever is growing in m y garden is my responsibility: I either planted it there, or I allowed what someone else planted to grow. That’s another life lesson…
  4. We’re getting ready for our annual Winning@Work day on Saturday - check it out here and join us if you can…
  5. I have been stirred to preach about “Developing a spirit of readiness” lately. I sense God is calling me and us to be ready for Him - not sure exactly what, but I’m full of expectation! If you some expectation stirred up, listen to my last two messages here.    I want to be ready for anything He wants of me…watch this space…
  6. My Scripture reading and meditation has been in the book of Hebrews lately, with this verse in particular standing out:  We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. - Hebrews 6:12

Get ready…Stay ready…

London’s new mayor knows his Latin & Greek…

May 3, 2008

So Boris Johnson is London’s new mayor… Educated at Eton, Boris’ father says that his son knows his Latin and Greek, and that someone who knows Latin and Greek is able to do anything. Well, I’ll have you know that I do know a little Greek - his name is Georgie! (Seriously, I the Georgie I know is an awesome preacher …)

I do pray for the new Mayor, especially that he will appoint a decent group of executives to the City Hall administration. I pray against ungodly counsellors finding his ear, and against the temptation to please the loud minority agenda, versus serving the majority of this great city. I pray that he will be a servant leader who is in touch with the real people of this city.

The Christian Voice Alan Craig did not get enough votes for a seat on the London Assembly, so its up to all of us Christians to get stuck in at grass-roots and make a difference from the bottom up… I guess that’s the way Jesus would have it anyway, isn’t it?

God bless Mayor Boris Johnson, and God bless London - may this city be governed in righteousness and be a blessing to the nations.

Voting for opposition..

May 1, 2008

Here are a few rameling thoughts on todays London mayoral election…

Today is election day for the position of Mayor of London. I voted early, though not to avoid the queues - when last have you seen queue at a British polling station?!  I’ve done my best to prepare for this vote, including attending a candidates hustings in central London last week. In the end, I voted for Alan Craig of the Christian Choice, because I hope he’ll get 5% of the vote and get a seat in the London Assembly and add his Christian principled voice to the sometimes stupendously politically correctness gone mad  It’ll probably come down to Boris Vs. Ken in the end, with my second vote favouring Boris from the Conservatives, not because I am wild about any of his policies (getting rid of bendy buses???), but mainly because I feel having a conservative mayor may strengthen the opposition party a bit, something which has been sorely lacking in the past decade of British politics.

Labour needs some stronger opposition. Opposition is a good thing. Even for Christians.  The lack of direct opposition to our faith has led to an often passive and luke-warm church.  Whatever opposition we are facing, may it serve to WAKE US UP and be the force for good Jesus called us and empowers us to be.

Tomorrow will tell who we will be London Mayor for the next four years. Tomorrow may also bring you and I and the church some opposition. Lets take it as a wake up call…

Jesus & St George…

April 24, 2008

April 23rd is St Georges Day here, when we (ok, some) fly the Flag of St George’s and celebrate this patron Saint of England who slew the dragon…

St George’s story is part fact part fiction. He was a real person in history, martyred in 303AD for his Christian faith, but of course the dragon slaying thing is a myth… Its also seriously doubted whether this patron Saint of England actually ever set foot on England…

This makes me think of another red cross. The wooden one on which Jesus Christ died about 2000 years ago. Its historical fact that He lived and died, and there’s massive evidence that He rose from the dead after slaying the real dragon - the Devil - on the cross. Fact or Fiction? What have you decided? As for me, every day is Jesus day…

My Auschwitz reflections…

April 16, 2008

Visited the Auschwitz Concentration camp in Poland last Saturday…

Most of us on the tour had underestimated the weather and dressed too lightly, so were literally shivering with cold for most of the tour… I cant begin to imagine what the inmates went through with the meagre protection they had from the elements, let alone the Germans. Talking about the Germans: I was walking alone and said to one of my daughters something along the lines of “its a good thing that we didnt live at that time.”    She replied: “Why, we’re not Jewish? ”  My reply revealed my thoughts: ”Yes, but we are German…”   Like when GK Chesterton read a newspaper column which explored the question of “whats wrong with the world?” he replied: “I am.”  I agree…

Following our Auschwitz visit on the Saturday I was back in London on Sunday to preached a response to the BIG QUESTION “Why does a supposedly good and almighty God allow suffering in the world?”  This is a very important question for which every Christian should have at least a solid “apologetic” for. You can listen to the message here and see how I propose that the “mystery” of this question must be considered from 4 perspectives in order to understand it from within a Biblical World view:

  • The “free will” perspective
  • The “temporal/eternal” perspective
  • The “purpose” perspective
  • The “God with us” perspective.

My conclusion considering these 4 perspectives is the same as what we read in 1 Peter 5:10-11  And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

You comments welcome….
